The Third Annual Artisans Market on the Square was a big hit with visitors at this spring’s Folk Festival. 42 booths filled Howard Street from Washington St. to Main Street. Colorful hammocks, quilts, paintings, pottery and woodwork were among the art and craft offerings. For the first time, awards were presented to artists by the Mountain View Area Artisans Council.

The awards were sponsored by The Citizens Bank, First Service Bank, Beverly Wardlaw Pierce, Outdoor Properties, Candy Bouquet and Stonebrook Fudge Factory, Tommys Famous Pizza and Sanders Antiques on the Square. The winners were selected by 3 jurors Terri Van Orman, Executive Director of the Arkansas Craft School, Jamie Murawski and Dana Shaffer. The whimsical awards, created by the collaborative team of Becki Dahlstedt and Jamie Murawksi using the finest rigatoni and gold and copper spray paint, were presented by Aunt Minnie and Lotta Miles in a very entertaining ceremony at 2 pm on Sunday.

The Best of Show Award went to Ramona Buss for her colorful woven baskets; Joseph McKay was selected as Outstanding Artisan for his handmade guitars; Best Booth Award was given to Skip and Rachael Mathews and their flame painted copper work; Best Demonstration was awarded to Gary Hazelwood who uses a foot powered saw to cut intricate wood designs; and Honorable Mention was awarded to Deborah Martin and her exotic colorful didgeridoos. Visitors were asked to vote for their favorite booth and the Peoples Choice Award winner was Loretta Babak with her paintings on wood. We thank all the sponsors for making these awards possible, the jurors who carefully reviewed all the artists to make their selections, and all the artists who participated in making this show a success.
